A Poetry Chapbook Imprint

The pigeon towers of the Nile Valley were replaced by the doocots of East Lothian. Mary Queen of Scots stood in for Nefertiti. A visiting Egyptian teacher in Knox Academy ... addressed me as 'Your Majesty'.

Sphinx 7

Sphinx 7:

Yes, it’s not your imagination—the magazine is a little late. It is likely to be mid September before it plops through your letter box.

The main reason for this is because the editor has been labouring to learn to use the desk-top publishing program In-Design. Eventually it will all be worth it. Just for the moment, it has slowed things down.

The magazine is also going to move to a twice-yearly issue, rather than three times. Don’t worry if you have just taken out a subscription for three issues – it will still extend to just that: three issues.

Ah, but what will be in Sphinx 7 when it finally appears with its nice burnt orange cover?

  • An Interview with Jeremy Page in the year The Frogmore Papers reaches the age of 25

  • Interview with Martin Holroyd who not only publishes Poetry Monthly, on and off line, but also offers a printing service to poets

  • A brief look at the American imprint Puddinghouse Press

  • A feature from Julius Stafford-Baker about his experience as a craftsman printer

  • Martin Bates on White Adder Press (and his life experience of publishing and being published)

and the usual other bits and pieces. And in the Sphinx 8 you can look forward to something on Hearing Eye and The Poetry Business. That’s just for starters…

You can order Sphinx through our online shop, and pay either online or by post.
