 Then there’s Dougal Graham, perhaps the first ever war-correspondent. When Bonnie Prince Charlie arrived in Scotland, Graham left his printing press to follow the army. By September 29, 1746 he was ready to publish a full history of The Pretender’s doomed campaign “giving an account of every Battle, Skirmish, and Siege, from the Time of the Pretender’s coming out of France, until he landed in France again.” It was written in metre, the price was fourpence and you could buy it from any bookseller, packman or from the author. It sold well….
